A nursing home in Rock Ferry has raised more than £1,300 for its residents at a summer fayre which brought together families and neighbours across the area, according to Birkenhead News.
Lezayre Nursing Home, based at Egerton Park, held the fair on its grounds on 8 August in a free event. Residents were joined by their relatives, friends and others for food, live entertainment and games.
Food consisted of a free barbecue, an ice cream van and homemade lemonade. Stalls lined the grounds, selling cakes, toys, jewellery, and a craft stall filled with proud artwork made by the residents of the home.
Later into the afternoon, there were competitions: raffles, a teddy tombola, face painting, and a children's colouring competition. Other games were also available. A live singer performed from 2:30 pm before a DJ kept the party going until 6 pm.
In the centre was a brand-new sweet cart built from scratch by the home's maintenance man, Phil, especially for the occasion. The cart proved a firm favourite with residents and visitors of all ages and will now become a permanent fixture at future events.
All money from the pot will be put back into the resident fund, used to fund outings, activities and treats for them.
Nicola Willett, home manager at Lezayre Nursing Home, said: "It was a wonderful day, and it meant so much to see our residents out in the garden, surrounded by their families and by the local community.
"Everyone pulled together to make it happen – from our staff and activities team to Phil and his fantastic Sweet Cart. Raising over £1,300 for our residents is the icing on the cake, and we can't wait to put it to good use."
The summer fayre was organised and staffed entirely by the Lezayre team, with support from residents, families and local well-wishers. The home is no stranger to organising events, as back in July, they hosted a summer puppy party. Puppies from Happy Dogs Boarding joined the residents in the garden for food, love, and a day of pets.
