Rock Ferry residents will see more visible cleaning in the area over the coming weeks.
Wirral Council and Biffa, the borough's waste contractor, are adding more staff and equipment to the streets for manual pavement cleaning. The operatives, who push distinctive barrows along the streets picking up litter, have already been deployed to Woodchurch, Beechwood and parts of north Birkenhead.
Council leader Paula Basnett said the investment in manual street cleaning would help target the worst-affected areas while providing a visible demonstration that the council takes the issue seriously.
"They are doing an important job on behalf of all of us, so if you see them out and about, make sure you say hello and show your support," she said.
She continued, "Litter is an issue which all councillors receive a lot of feedback on from residents. While it is down to people themselves to take responsibility for binning their waste appropriately, some litter is inevitable, and it is the council's job to ensure our streets are as clean as possible."
Biffa is set to serve the Wirral for another eight years after winning a £350 million bin collection deal in July. The initial contract is eight years, but could be extended till 2043 for a further eight years, if the council wants to. The current operating contract lasts until August 2027, at which point the new one will be made effective.
