A man in his 60s is in hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed in broad daylight outside shops in Woodchurch on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Liverpool Echo, police were called to Hoole Road at 3:40 pm. The victim had suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and ribcage. Thankfully, paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to the hospital for further treatment. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
Neighbours said the victim is disabled and cannot speak.
Police cordoned off the row of shops on Hoole Road, including the Co-op, a chip shop, and Sayers. They also taped off part of The Meadow, which links together Hoole Road and Pemberton Road. Uniformed officers and dogs were both present at the scene.
Police acted quickly, arresting a 40-year-old man from Noctorum on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He is in custody and is due to be questioned today. No motive has been established yet.
On the incident, Detective Inspector Andy Schofield said: "An investigation is underway after a man has suffered a serious injury on Hoole Road as a result of the offender's actions, and is getting the care he needs in hospital."
He added, "At the time of this incident, it would have been busy with people coming home from work or visiting shops in the area, so please contact us if you saw what happened. Knife crime has no place on our streets, and it is vital that those responsible for carrying or using knives are found and brought to justice."
Anyone who is in the area should know the police cordon is expected to stay for most of today.
