It's an exciting day for Wirral art lovers, as a diverse new exhibition has now arrived at the Williamson Art Gallery in Prenton, as reported by Birkenhead News.

The exhibit features work from some of the country's leading contemporary artists.

The gallery is working with the Hayward Gallery, located near the Southbank Centre in London, for the exhibit, called Small Wonders: Reimagining British Art to Wirral.

The collaboration comes as the galleries celebrate 75 years since the Festival of Britain began. After World War 2, the festival helped to bring UK art communities together across the country.

50 artists' works are showcased in the exhibit. Each has taken part in the British Art Show, which is like the Oscars for art. For the exhibit, there are small pieces inspired by the works each artist entered into the original show.

What visitors see when they come, organisers say, is a unique look at how contemporary art in Britain has evolved over five decades.

Alongside Small Wonders, visitors can also see a collection of 21 photogravure prints based on drawings by the renowned American artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

Did we mention the photos are exclusive to the gallery?

The drawings span almost 50 years of O'Keeffe's career, from 1915 to 1963, and highlight key themes and styles that helped establish her as one of the most influential figures in American modern art.

Williamson Art Gallery curator Josh Mackarell said in a statement: "It’s fantastic for the Williamson to be partnering with the Hayward Touring Programme and bringing such significant artists to Birkenhead. Small Wonders is an inspiring exhibition that celebrates the enduring and constantly inventive creative spirit of modern British art."

The exhibition is open from today and will run until July 25. You can head to the Williamson from Monday to Saturday.
