Police are appealing for information after a cyclist was seriously injured in a collision involving two vehicles in New Brighton, according to the Wirral Globe.
Emergency services were called to Rowson Street at around 11.30 am today following reports of a collision involving a cyclist, a van, and a Fiat 500.
Merseyside Police said a man in his 50s was riding along the road when he swerved to avoid a light-coloured Fiat 500 before colliding with a stationary van.
The cyclist suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The van driver remained at the scene and assisted officers with enquiries. However, the Fiat 500 driver left the area before police arrived. The police are trying to trace the driver.
A large emergency response came as a result of the incident. Police, firefighters, and ambulance crews attended the scene. Between Hope Street and Albion Street, Rowson Street was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from Merseyside Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said in a statement: "We are very keen to speak to the driver of the Fiat 500 to establish the circumstances of what happened, so I urge you to please get in touch as soon as possible."
Timpson continued, "I also urge those with CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam systems in the area to please check your footage and the events leading up to the collision or the moments thereafter. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist with enquiries.”
The road and surrounding area remain closed, and if you're travelling in the area, police ask that you avoid the street and find an alternate route.
