A street party is set to take place in Woodchurch, got 'everyone buzzing' over the weekend, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The event in the Wirral suburb is generating significant excitement within the community. The street party took place over the bank holiday in Woodchurch.

Residents gathered on Saturday for a free street party celebrating the area's future and the opportunities that could come from a major government investment programme, known as Pride in Place. The programme is familiar to the Wirral, having previously secured funding for Seacombe.

The event, held around Hoole Road, featured a packed programme of family-friendly activities including boxing and MMA sessions, dance performances, live music, bouncy castles, and a teddy bears' picnic, which is beyond adorable.

As well as enjoying the festivities, residents were encouraged to share their ideas on how future funding could be used. Suggestion forms and expressions of interest were available for those wanting to help shape upcoming projects in the community.

Among the ideas put forward so far are improvements to green spaces, new MMA and boxing facilities, and additional support for young people who can be difficult to engage through traditional services.

Jenny Allinson, chair of Pride in Woodchurch, said the response from residents had been overwhelmingly positive.

She said in a statement: "It's been really positive, everyone's buzzing about it. It's been non-stop chatter. It takes me about two hours to go to the shop and back, which is five minutes away, because that many people stop talking about it."

The event forms part of efforts to raise awareness of Pride in Place, which will provide funding and support to hundreds of communities across the UK over the next decade. Areas selected for the scheme could receive up to £20 million to deliver long-term improvements chosen by residents.

Organisers hope the funding will help bring lasting benefits to Woodchurch while giving the community a greater say in the projects that shape the estate in the years ahead.
