Two men and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested after a cyclist died following a collision with a car on Hoylake Road in Birkenhead.
Police were called just before 8pm on Sunday, 1 November, to reports of a crash involving a BMW and a pedal cyclist.
The collision happened on Hoylake Road between Compton Road and Hurrell Road, travelling away from Bidston train station.
The cyclist, a 30-year-old local man, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries. He died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Merseyside Police said two people ran from the BMW but were later arrested. The third stayed at the scene with the car.
A 20-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and the 15-year-old were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit. The 19-year-old and the 15-year-old were also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and report a collision.
Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy, of the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man's family. His family are aware and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers and I would like to thank members of the public who stopped to help the injured cyclist."
He said the car involved was a black 59-plate BMW X1, and asked anyone who saw a car matching that description around Birkenhead or Bidston in the hours before the crash to get in touch.
He also wants to speak to anyone who saw either of the men leaving the scene, and to drivers or pedestrians who were in the area at the time.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove vital to our ongoing enquiries," he said.
