Students at St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington have won a national award for their work helping people in need and protecting the environment.
The school has been given CAFOD's LiveSimply Award for projects carried out over the past two school years.
The award, from the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, recognises Catholic schools and communities that take practical action to care for people and the planet.
The students' projects included:
- Collecting food and delivering two minibuses of donations to Wirral Foodbank in Birkenhead.
- Collecting clothes, toiletries and toys for refugees through Hearts4Refugees.
- Organising litter-picks around Bebington to protect wildlife and green spaces.
- Writing letters to the Government about climate change.
Anne, a Year 10 student, said: “It’s been really nice to see everyone in school working together to help others, both in our local community and further away. I’ve really enjoyed being part of it and seeing how the things we do in school can make a difference to other people.”
Headteacher Peadar McLoughlin said: "Over the course of the past two years, they have embodied our school values of compassion, respect, determination and justice, and I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved together for the benefit of others."
Mrs Carmel Harvey, head of religious education, said the award was "a wonderful testament to the compassion, commitment and collective effort of our whole school community".
The college is part of the Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust.
Last week, Overchurch Junior School pupils raised £3,600 for Claire House.
