A new education and creative hub for young people has opened in Hamilton Square. £100,000 is set to be raised in a campaign to make the centre fully functional.
According to Birkenhead News, I AM ME Collective CIC has unveiled its new headquarters, creating a dedicated space where young people aged 11 to 25 can access education, creative opportunities and wellbeing support. All activities will be fully funded or subsidised.
The organisation uses dance, music, mindfulness, and art to help young people explore their identity and build confidence all across the Wirral and Chester.
Any funds raised through the campaign will go towards creative outlets. There will be a media suite, recording studio, a youth radio station, a dance studio, and a hair and beauty training space. The hub aims to support young people from different backgrounds, particularly those not fond of traditional education or school.
But the hub isn't stopping at the creative side. They will apparently offer alternative education provisions during term time to ensure students are learning and developing useful skills for employment. Programmes in these areas will still have a creative focus on things like music production, videography and editing, dance, graphic design, and mental health practices like mindfulness and meditation.
The organisation says the hub is intended to be a safe, inspiring environment where young people can grow in confidence, express themselves and feel seen and heard.
Becky Jones from I AM ME Collective CIC said: "We've been doing great work with young people across the region, giving them newfound passion for creativity and learning. We've seen some remarkable results, and it's been a joy to see them succeed — including young people with mental health and confidence issues overcoming their fears and performing on stage. With support and funding we can change even more lives."
Co-Director Rakeem Lewis added: "The launch of the hub marks a significant milestone for us. We've been steadily expanding our community and education programmes across the region and having our own centre will take things to the next level." He also said the open day was successful and they're now looking for funding to help.
Supporters can donate through the Crowdfunder page, with contributions helping to equip the space and expand opportunities for young people across Birkenhead and the wider Wirral.
