Wynsors is closing its Birkenhead store, with the family footwear retailer offering up to 30% off while stocks last.

The shoe shop, in the Europa Centre, is one of 17 Wynsors branches closing across England, according to the Liverpool Echo. Other closures include stores in Bootle, Leeds, and Sheffield.

In a statement, Wynsors said: "It's with sadness that we announce that certain Wynsors stores will be closing their doors. We'd like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers who have shopped with us and supported the store over the years. Your support has meant so much to the whole team."

The retailer, which began as Wynsors World of Shoes in 1956, operates dozens of stores primarily across the North of England, selling budget and branded shoes, trainers and school wear. After the Birkenhead closure, the nearest Wynsors stores will be in Knotty Ash, St Helens and Warrington.

The closure is another blow for the Europa Centre, located just outside Birkenhead Shopping Centre. The council acquired the building in March 2018. Since 2023, the area has lost Wilko and Mecca Bingo, which closed in June after its lease ended.

Only one unit in the Europa Centre is expected to remain in use following the Wynsors closure.

However, Birkenhead is in the middle of some regeneration, as the market is being moved into the old TJ Hughes building.
