A Woodchurch teenager who killed his 17-year-old friend in a crash had previously been arrested after allegedly driving a Sur-Ron e-bike at a police officer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Months before the fatal incident involving his friend, Leon Jones, now 20, from Woodchurch in Moreton, was arrested over an incident involving the e-bike in July 2024. He was arrested and later charged with dangerous driving, assaulting an emergency worker and other driving offences. The prosecution discontinued the case in May 2026 due to a lack of evidence.
However, it was later, when Jones was involved in the fatal crash on Hoole Road in Woodchurch with 17-year-old Spencer Crofts in November 2024. The teenagers were reportedly performing wheelies and riding dangerously around, egged on by a group of friends. At the time, Jones was also riding a Sur-Ron e-bike.
At around 6:30 pm on November 30, the two collided head-on at the scene.
Crofts died at the scene from head injuries, while Jones suffered serious injuries. Jones later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and arson and was sentenced to five years and 10 months in a young offenders' institute.
