The Wirral Coastguard and Rescue Team has been named as a finalist in The Guide Liverpool's Hero Awards 2026.
The rescue team has been a finalist in the Emergency Service Award category. Also nominated in the category are Liverpool Women's Hospital Neonatal Unit and North West Air Ambulance Charity.
The volunteer team, which responds to emergencies along the Wirral coastline throughout the year, is now asking for your vote in the free vote that will decide the winner.
Coastguard Rescue Officers carry out searches for missing people, assist those in difficulty around the coast, and work on water safety education and community engagement.
In a statement on social media, the team said: "To have the work and dedication of the whole team recognised in this way means a great deal to us."
The team also thanked everyone who nominated them and those who "support the team throughout the year".
Voting opens today. It's free and open until midnight on 11 October 2026. Votes can be cast online at form.jotform.com/262625430143348. The ceremony will take place on November 28.
The team added: "Whatever the result, we're incredibly proud to see the work of Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team recognised alongside other emergency services doing fantastic work across our region."
