A coastguard search was launched following reports of a paraglider in difficulty off the Wirral coast on Monday evening.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, the Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team was called out yesterday (September 21) after concerns were raised about a possible paraglider in trouble between Leasowe and New Brighton.
The team carried out a search of the coastline and spoke with members of the public as witnesses to piece together what happened.
Nothing was found in the search, and no more reports were made related to the incident, so it was classified as a false alarm with good intentions.
Coastguard teams recalled there were active paragliders in the area earlier in the day, and a drone. They theorised that fast-descending lights from the drone may have been mistaken for a paraglider in difficulty.
A spokesman for Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said the original caller "absolutely did the correct thing by calling 999 and reporting what they had seen."
They added: "If you're ever unsure whether somebody may be in difficulty at the coast, make the call."
They also thanked members of the public for their cooperation.
