A new digital tool has been launched to make journeys easier for visitors and commuters using New Brighton Station.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, New Brighton Creative Futures CIC, who are known for the local OpenAIR Gallery and murals around town, have launched a new live train board.
The train board introduction is part of the Friends of New Brighton Station campaign. Part of the non-profit's campaign. New Brighton Creative Futures recently secured a meeting with National Rail to raise concerns over rust and disrepair at the station.
The free train board, available at trains.hellonewbrighton.com, displays real-time information for all services using National Rail's live data feed. It shows platforms, delays, cancellations, planned engineering works and connections to Chester, West Kirby and major routes from Liverpool Lime Street to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.
Users don't have to keep visiting the website to get the board, they can save the tool to their smartphone's home screen. There's no sign up, adverts, or cookies to block commuters from browsing their trains.
Rory Wilmer, founder and creative director of New Brighton Creative Futures, said: "People know us for the murals, but we've always been about more than paint on walls. We support creative industries across every field, and we care about the things that make a place work: the welcome, the visitor economy, and whether you can get here and get home again."
He added: "You shouldn't need to be standing on the platform to know when the next train goes, so we built New Brighton its own board and made it free for everyone. Giving back to the community is what we're about."
Engineering works are scheduled across the Liverpool City Region, which the board has factored in, as it will notify users to upcoming times when New Brighton trains will not follow their usual route around the Liverpool loop.
New Brighton Creative Futures has offered to work with One West Kirby on a version for West Kirby and would support friends groups at other stations across the network.
Mr Wilmer said the team is "all about collaboration" and said their mission is to empower local people and communities.
It is important to note that the board is not an official Merseyrail service or asset. It's an independent community project, but still a reliable one! Live times are provided via National Rail Enquiries through the Rail Data Marketplace.
