One of the best places on the Wirral (in our opinion) to find good coffee and good vibes is Wallasey. Whether it's on a morning dog walk or you're looking to grab a takeaway coffee before a beachside walk, Wallasey has it all. With its bustling independent coffee scene, you'll find many gems in this corner of the Wirral, but here are some of our favourites.

1. Social 114

Often ranked among Wallasey's top coffee shops, this social-first cafe and coffee shop on Victoria Road in New Brighton is as cool as cafes get. This cool orange-style cafe is independently run and is a perfect place to socialise before heading to New Brighton Beach. On the menu here are trendy cafe dishes you may expect, which you can sneak a peek at on their Instagram. Think Blueberry Crumble French Toast, different flavours of matcha, and your typical breakfast dishes. This coffee shop even sells merch, so if you really want to rep them, you can.

Social 114 is open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

2. The Woodhouse

The Woodhouse is another local favourite located at 257 Wallasey Village. Woodhouse is open seven days a week, and has been hailed as having some of the best sausage rolls in the area. But if you're not into anything that meaty, they serve a mouth-watering number of desserts, including blondies, chocolate-filled cookies, and anything viral (yes, that includes Dubai chocolate) that you can get your hands on. They're praised for their healthier options like smoothies as well, and also serve milkshakes.

Be aware, the spot is a hotspot for dog walkers, so if you don't like noise, this may not be the place for you.

The Woodhouse is open 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

3. Driftwood Cafe

Anyone who has been near the promenade will have heard of Driftwood Cafe on Victoria Parade. This is one of the area's most well-known spots, with over 500 Google reviews, but there's a reason for that. It's a New Brighton staple, with a blue exterior and is a beachside cafe. The inside makes you feel as if you're stepping into an old and cosy tearoom, but the awards speak for themselves.

A Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award winner for 2025, it is ranked among the top restaurants in New Brighton. The afternoon tea served on vintage crockery is a particular highlight. The cafe is dog-friendly and welcomes pets. Booking is strongly recommended as it's extremely popular. Other items on the menu include salads, seaside delights, sandwiches and breakfasts. There are also dairy-free and gluten-free cake options.

Driftwood is open 9:30 am to 4 pm Wednesday to Sunday.

4. The Sea Shanty

The sea theme continues with The Sea Shanty, located opposite New Brighton train station on Atherton Street. Like many of our independent picks, this coffee place specialises in homemade treats and speciality coffee. What's unique about this cafe is that they do have a focus on health and dietary requirements. They serve sugar-free and gluten-free cakes, which is not something that is always common.

Also, here is some seaside entertainment, as they host workshops, a chess club, and live performances. Dishes you can expect to find here include coffee cake and a range of good value coffee.

It is open from 7:15 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on the weekend.

5. Boho Brunching

Boho Brunching is an aesthetic brunch spot and coffee shop on Mill Lane. This spot leans into the boho and earthy feeling, with earth tones and green splattered throughout the interior. This is more than just a cafe, but the focus is on unique brunch dishes crafted by the staff through locally sourced ingredients.

Highlights of their brunch creations include the Gains Brunch, which is packed with protein, and the new and trendy Hot Honey brunch, inspired by the trend of the moment. This spot has just launched a new menu, so it is worth a visit if you want a unique brunch experience.

Boho Brunching is open from 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 3 pm on the weekends.

6. Love Coffee

Another seaside location, Love Coffee is an independent and family-run gem located on the promenade in New Brighton outside Portofino Restaurant. This is an ideal spot for a beachside walk or visit, and if you're looking to taste local coffee from roasters, here is your place. This place is also very dog-friendly and sells a selection of dog-friendly snacks for pampered pooches.

Love Coffee is not really a food spot, but a place for artisan coffee lovers. They sell a range of typical coffees as well as a Dirty Chai Latte and a range of syrups.

This independent gem is open from 9 am to 3 pm every day.
