Residents are being encouraged to have their say on how a key Wirral conservation area is managed, according to Birkenhead News. The area in question is directly next to Birkenhead Town Centre.
Clifton Park Conservation Area is an area along part of the A41 Borough Road, across from the Pyramids shopping centre. It features numerous high-quality residential villas and was developed around 1840 by Captain William Sharp to a layout designed by architect Walter Scott.
Back in 2004, the area was given a Conservation Area status, thanks to its historic links. It was later added to Historic England's Heritage At Risk Register in 2022.
Wirral Council is considering a new Appraisal and Management Plan for the area, which assesses its historic character and significance while setting out proposals for its future management. The document was prepared following site visits and an initial informal public consultation.
As the management plan will shape the future of the conservation area, the council is inviting residents, local organisations and other interested parties to share their views. Feedback received during the consultation will be considered before the plan is finalised.
Chair of Wirral Council's Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, Councillor Mark Skillicron, said: "I would urge all those with an interest in this special area to take part in this consultation, share your views, knowledge and experience of Clifton Park with us so we can put in place the necessary protection and a management plan to safeguard this historic area for future generations."
You can have your say until August 16. To offer your view, complete the questionnaire online at the Have Your Say Wirral website.
For those looking for more guidance, a public information event will be held at Masonic Temple, Clifton Hall, 27 Clifton Road, Birkenhead, CH41 2SF, between 5 pm and 7 pm on 23 July 2026.
Visitors can view information panels, complete the survey and speak to conservation officers. Conservation officers can also be contacted directly by emailing heritage@wirral.gov.uk.
