Film fans in Wirral can expect everything from drag queens and eccentric aristocrats to intergalactic adventures as Vue Birkenhead launches a special Pride Month cinema season.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, the cinema will host three LGBTQ+ films throughout Pride Month, including a new 2026 picture.
Kicking off Pride Month on June 5 is the new flick Madfabulous, a film inspired by the life of eccentric aristocrat Henry Paget. The film, set in North Wales in the 1890s, follows him as he shakes up society with his new title. Bridgerton, but camp maybe?
On June 6, the cinema is screening The Birdcage, returning to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The comedy stars the late Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a long-term couple who try to conceal their sexuality when meeting their son's conservative in-laws.
Sadly, there are no more LGBTQ+ screenings for two weeks after that, but on June 20 sci-fi comedy, Lesbian Space Princess. This sapphic film follows Princess Saira on a mission across the galaxy to rescue her former girlfriend from a bizarre alien threat.
Tony Bywood, general manager of Vue Birkenhead, said in a statement: "At Vue, we’re committed to showcasing films that reflect the rich diversity of our audiences, and this Pride, we’re especially proud to highlight stories that celebrate and represent our LGBTQ+ communities."
He continued, "We can't wait to welcome film fans to switch off and immerse themselves in human stories with big emotions, deep connections - and moments that will last long after the credits roll."
