Tranmere Rovers were forced to settle for a point at Rodney Parade on Saturday as Newport County struck in the 90th minute to earn a 2-2 draw.

The Rovers fought back from a goal down through strikes in the second half by Zane Okoro and Dylan Jones, only for Shaquille Gwengwe to score his second goal of the afternoon and deny Rovers victory late on.

Newport took the lead in the 11th minute when Harrison Biggins delivered a cross towards the back post, and Gwengwe responded with a header towards the goal. Despite Bobby Faulkner's efforts to prevent the ball crossing the line, the hosts went in front.

Tranmere had chances before half-time, with Tom Ince's shot from inside the penalty area cleared off the line and captain Will Vaulks forcing Newport goalkeeper Jordan Wright into a diving save, but Newport held their lead at half-time.

Rovers improved after the restart and the pressure told in the 71st minute when Joel Senior's low cross found Okoro at the near post. The 19-year-old slid in and evened the score.

Another goal came seven minutes later when Jones, who was making his club debut since rejoining from Norwich, found space inside the area and finished clinically past Wright to put Rovers 2-1 ahead.

It seemed as if Tranmere had done enough, but as the clock reached the 90th minute, Gwengwe blasted the ball into the top-right corner to earn Newport a share of the spoils.

Despite the draw, the result means Tranmere remains unbeaten in League Two.
