Tranmere drawn alongside Stockport and Shrewsbury in EFL Trophy group

Tranmere Rovers will face League One opposition in their pre-determined group, with a Premier League under-21 side to be added in Thursday's draw.

Tranmere Rovers have been placed in Group E of the EFL Trophy Northern Section for the 2026/27 season, alongside Stockport County and Shrewsbury Town, according to the football club.

A Premier League under-21 team will complete the group when the draw takes place live on Sky Sports News on Thursday, 25th June, starting at 2.30 pm. The eight northern section under-21 sides are Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Sunderland.

Group stage matches will begin in early September, with exact dates to be confirmed following the EFL's fixture release day on Thursday.

The competition format sees the top two teams from each group progress to the knockout stages. Matches level after 90 minutes will go straight to penalties until the semi-final stage, with the final scheduled for Sunday, 11th April. And yes, this will include extra time if required.
