Plans have been submitted to Wirral Council to convert an empty building in Birkenhead town centre into apartments, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Guild Hall on Oliver Street could become 19 new homes if the application is approved, with developers also proposing to add an extra storey to the property.
The apartments would range from one to two bedrooms across four floors. The ground floor would contain four one-bed apartments and one two-bed unit, while the first floor would have three one-beds and two two-beds.
The second floor would include three one-bed apartments and three duplex two-beds, with the new third floor housing three one-beds and the upper floors of the duplex units. Each apartment would have its own bathroom and living/kitchen area.
The proposed third-floor extension would have a different appearance to the existing red brick building, with plans showing it would be constructed from grey aluminium.
Most of the work would be inside the building, but some external work is planned. Every window would be replaced with double-glazed aluminium units.
Cycle storage is planned to be included on each floor, but no parking spaces are mentioned in the plans. They do note that tenants would be allowed to store bikes inside apartments, as the apartments would be big enough to do so.
The site is very sought after, as it is close to the Pyramids shopping centre, Birkenhead Park and important Merseyrail stations. Planning documents add that this is a draw to ensuring people walk, cycle, and use transport to travel.
