Here's something you don't read every day - a New Brighton flat has been closed for three months after Wirral Council secured a closure order for the property.
The property was closed in response to complaints from neighbours, who deemed the flat a "serious nuisance to" the public, according to the Wirral Globe.
The property is located on Tollemache Street, close to Victoria Parade.
Wirral Magistrates' Court granted the order on September 17 under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The order forbids entry to the property, except under limited circumstances, until 4 pm on December 16, 2026.
The court heard neighbours had endured disruption and threats to their wellbeing over long periods. There were repeated interventions to stop the behaviour, as well as warnings and enforcement efforts, but the problems persisted.
Evidence presented to the court detailed persistent nuisance associated with the address, including frequent visitors attending at all hours, noise disturbance, shouting, swearing and behaviour causing alarm and distress to other residents living within the building and the local community.
Wirral Council's anti-social behaviour team and Prima Housing Group investigated the property in great detail, and were supported by evidence from residents.
Councillor Jenny Johnson, chair of Wirral Council's tourism, communities, culture and leisure committee, said in a statement: "This is a really good example of the council working in partnership with other agencies to take decisive and effective action against those whose behaviour impacts negatively on other people and the wider community."
Ms. Johnson continued, saying the council will always use their lawful powers to "tackle anti-social behaviour and nuisance neighbours" when reports are made.
