A 29-year-old man from Woodchurch has appeared in court, where he is accused of stealing goalposts and equipment worth around £2,500 from Wirral Council.
The man has been named as Wesley Johnson, of Woodland Road, Woodchurch, according to the Wirral Globe. He appeared before Wirral Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 22 September charged with theft.
At 7:15 am on 21 September, police were called to Arrowe Park playing fields after a member of the public reported seeing goalposts strewn across the grass. A wheelbarrow containing what appeared to be strips of aluminium had also been abandoned nearby.
Officers arrested Johnson at his home in Woodchurch later that day.
Johnson didn't enter a plea and was granted unconditional bail. He will appear again for a plea hearing at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on 28 October.
The case was adjourned so the Crown Prosecution Service could obtain Johnson's correct record of previous convictions and CCTV relating to the allegation, so it can be taken into account by his solicitor.
