Vacant floors in two council-owned office buildings in Birkenhead town centre are being prepared for new tenants after businesses expressed firm interest in the space, according to the Wirral View.
One tenant has shown interest in two floors of the Irvine Building, while another is looking at two to three floors in the neighbouring Mallory Building. To accommodate the new arrivals, the council will be reorganising its staff across both sites.
Wirral Council has appointed Corstorphine and Wright Architects to carry out the fit-out works for £604,687.50 plus VAT, with completion expected by the end of September 2027. The firm was chosen as it carried out the original fit-out, and much of that specification can be reused.
The Mallory and Irvine buildings were built to bring council services together in one place and attract more people into Birkenhead town centre during the day. Speaking of the offices, the council describes them as "unique and exceptional" in the local market because they offer large office space close to amenities in the town centre.
Several floors of Mallory are currently used by council staff, with the remainder and Irvine having been marketed for private tenants.
Council leader Paula Basnett said: "This is a strong vote of confidence in Birkenhead and its future. Mallory and Irvine are high-quality office buildings in the heart of the town centre, and bringing more people to work here will help increase footfall and support local shops and businesses. "
She added: "By making the most of these assets, we are not only helping to strengthen the town centre economy but also generating income that can be reinvested into the frontline services that residents rely on."
