Man charged after police car damaged with wine bottle in Tranmere

A 38-year-old man has been charged after allegedly smashing a police car windscreen with a wine bottle while an officer was inside the vehicle.

A wanted man has been charged with several offences after a police car was damaged in Tranmere on Monday evening.

At around 11pm, officers spotted a man who was wanted for several offences in the area, as reported by Birkenhead News.

The man allegedly cracked the windscreen of a police car upon seeing the vehicle. He also used another bottle to damage the front wing mirror while an officer was still in the vehicle.

When the man saw the police car, he allegedly cracked the windscreen with a wine bottle and used another bottle to damage the front wing mirror while the officer was still inside the vehicle.

Police patrols and dogs surrounded the area and located the suspect at the back of an address after he fled from officers.

Benjamin Sysum, 38, of Buttermere Court, Penrith Street in Birkenhead, was arrested and later charged with criminal damage to a motor vehicle and assaulting an emergency worker.

He has been remanded into custody after appearing at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court today (October 7).
