Magenta Living has begun another huge property project, starting construction on Oxton Village's first social housing development.

Work has begun on 30 new homes, which is huge because it's the first development of its kind in Oxton in over ten years, according to Birkenhead News.

The Parchments development is located on the site of a former school. The development will have 18 two-bed and 12 one-bedroom apartments on the development. Its name is a nod to the history of the old school site, which used to be where Highfield School was, which closed in 2007.

The scheme is working in partnership with Wirral Council's planning team, and is designed to conserve the area.

The development has received £3.57 million in financial support from Homes England as part of their plans to increase affordable and social housing supply.

Paul McGrady, Magenta Living's Chief Financial Officer, said the housing provider was "very proud" to move forward with the development. "We are determined to provide more quality, much-needed housing; strengthening our communities and giving the people who live here more opportunities," he said.

Wirral Council Leader Councillor Paula Basnett welcomed the scheme, saying it was "encouraging to see Magenta Living bringing forward another housing development in this popular part of Wirral."

She added: "The scheme has been designed with sensitivity to the conservation area, helping to meet housing needs while protecting the character of the neighbourhood."

James Reeveley, Operations Director of The Casey Group, which is carrying out the construction of the homes, said the company was "delighted" to be working with Magenta Living to deliver the homes.

Councillor Graham Morgan, Liverpool City Region's Deputy Mayor for Housing, said housing providers like Magenta Living were "helping to create new communities and deliver much-needed high-quality homes for every need."

The Parchments is expected to be completed in January 2028.
