Free parking is being offered at The Pyramids Shopping Centre car parks in Birkenhead town centre while upgrade works take place.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, work is currently taking place at the Borough Road car park and will begin next week on 21 September at the neighbouring Conway Street car park. The work on both car parks is expected to take around a week.
The new barriers and equipment are replacing the old systems, ensuring they are reliable for visitors. It is noted that access to the car parks may be limited during work, but at least one entrance and exit will remain open at all times.
Councillor Paula Basnett, leader of Wirral Council, said: "These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to making Birkenhead town centre as accessible and convenient as possible for residents and visitors.
She continued, "Once installed, the new parking barriers and equipment will provide a more reliable and user-friendly parking experience for everyone using The Pyramids and The Grange car parks."
The car park upgrades are also happening at the same time as work on St John and St Catherine Street, which began yesterday (16 September). These will last longer, with an estimate of six weeks made for the work to be completed.
St John Street will be closed to vehicles during this time, with a diversion in place for deliveries.
Access for pedestrians will be enabled during business hours, and Catherine Street remains open to pedestrians.
Anyone looking to head to the town centre is advised to allow extra time for journeys.
