Council leader Paula Basnett joined councillors Tony Murphy and Mark Skillicorn, along with chief executive Sue Percy, on a tour of the site alongside housing provider Regenda Homes, in a report by the Wirral Globe.
Wirral Council entered a partnership with Regenda Homes in March 2022, and the staged development plans have begun.
The development is part of the long-term rebuilding of New Ferry following the 2017 gas explosion, which caused widespread damage to homes and businesses and led to years of recovery work.
Former New Ferry resident Chris Lee-Power spoke about his experiences of the blast and the lasting effect it had on his family. His account highlighted the resilience of local people as the community continues to rebuild.
The plan will offer new affordable homes for residents and support them while helping to increase investment and local activity in the area. Councillors said the first phase of the project has already helped bring more activity to the area and boosted local businesses.
Basnett said in a statement: "I am proud to see these partnerships delivering real results for our communities".
She continued, "This development is about more than bricks and mortar – it is about providing homes, supporting local businesses, restoring confidence and ensuring that New Ferry continues to move forward."
