A former NHS building in Oxton will be demolished after a fire and multiple break-ins, according to the Wirral Globe.
Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed it will demolish the Thorn Heys unit at the top of Columbia Road. The building is part of the Ashton House site, along with the separate Columbia Unit, which the Trust says will remain in place for now. Thorn Heys was used for respite care for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities run by nurses.
The decision is influenced by an alleged deliberate fire last May, and reports of intruders trespassing on the premises ramping up. Just last week, Merseyside Police were called to Ashton House following reports of an alleged break-in.
A spokesperson for the Trust said the premises have been unused for some time and, following the fire and subsequent break-ins, one of the units is very damaged.
"To ensure the site is safe and appropriately secured, the Trust has taken the decision to demolish the Thorn Heys unit," the spokesperson said.
The Columbia Unit, also on the site, is not being demolished, and it is secured and frequently monitored. is secured and monitored and is not being demolished at this time. No patient or staff services operate from Thorn Heys.
