Birkenhead MP Alison McGovern has visited the Airbus facility in Broughton, where 226 of her constituents are employed and live.
The Labour MP toured the site on 28 August, according to Birkenhead News. During her visit, she met workers at the plant, located in Wales. The site manufactures wing components and assembles wings for Airbus's commercial aircraft. The facility draws its workforce from across North Wales, Cheshire and Merseyside.
The Broughton Airbus site employs around 6,000 highly skilled staff. It is responsible for creating the Wellington and Lancaster bombers, and De Havilland's Mosquito and Comet.
Speaking after her visit, McGovern said in a statement: "A lot of people from Birkenhead make that journey over to Broughton every day, and skilled manufacturing is still a big part of how people here earn a living. Airbus is a large part of that picture."
She called the Broughton site "one of the biggest employers" in the area and said the jobs are important to Birkenhead. She also said she is "keen" that young people in Birkenhead have access to opportunities in similar industries like Airbus.
