Tranmere Rovers has announced an authentic local partnership with one of their players, midfielder Charlie Whittaker. For the upcoming season, he will be sponsored by the Rose & Crown pub in Bebington, as reported by the Wirral Globe.
The award-winning pub specialises in cask beer from Thwaites Brewery as well as several local breweries and has been listed in our Best Pubs list and in The Telegraph's for the last two years.
Whittaker has started the season strong, scoring in the first two competitive games. He scored the opening goal against Rochdale and the second in the win over Shrewsbury Town.
Rose & Crown co-owner James Skiner said in a statement: "We're really pleased to be sponsoring Charlie Whittaker for the upcoming season, and we're proud to get on board with the Club.
"After a difficult couple of years on the pitch, hopefully the quality signings that have been made over the summer, together with the strong core of retained players, can help turn things around on the pitch and push us back towards the right end of the table."
He added that Charlie has a "proven track record of scoring goals" when his team needs him.
Whittaker recently signed with the club after he spent six months at Notts County and nine years at Everton.
On his signing, Charlie said: "I’m really excited. I’ve spoken to the gaffer, and I’m just really excited with the ambitions of the club. Hopefully I can help with that and push the team to where they need to be."
