Construction has officially started on the next phase of homes at Wirral Waters, marking another significant milestone in the transformation of the Northbank neighbourhood in Birkenhead.
According to Birkenhead News, Peel Waters, alongside joint venture partners Qualis Developments and Forshaw Group, has commenced work on phase two of Redbridge Quay, delivering 90 new waterside homes on Dock Road.
The scheme, which we know you're well aware of by now, will create 84 one-bedroom and six three-bedroom homes across six four-storey buildings, designed in line with the area's dockland heritage with a modern and sustainable twist.
Residents will benefit from energy-efficient features. Think solar panels, EV charging infrastructure and cycle parking, landscaped communal gardens, new tree planting and improved public realm connecting directly to the waterfront promenade.
Wirral Waters is already prominent, with its recent developments across the area, including the completion of Miller's Quay and the beginning of Redbridge Quay.
However, the most notable milestones in the regeneration of the area are the £18 million three-stage logistics hub for Mea Park West, the submission of plans for a new £7 million Aldi store, and planning approval for a new David Lloyd Leisure facility.
Wirral Met College's Wirral Waters campus celebrated its 10th anniversary this June, underlining the area's role as a hub for skills and education.
Forshaw Construction is the contractor for Redbridge Quay Phase 2, with completion expected by winter 2027.
James Whittaker, Managing Director of Peel Waters, said: "This is another big moment for Wirral Waters. Getting spades in the ground for the next phase of Redbridge Quay shows the pace at which this regeneration is now moving. We're not just talking about transformation anymore – we're delivering it."
Councillor Mark Skillicorn, Chair of Wirral Council's Economy, Regeneration and Housing committee, said that the next phase of construction from Wirral Waters is an "important milestone" and contributes to Birkenhead's wider regeneration.
