Wirral Council has informed residents on why they are considering moving green wheelie bin collections to every 3 weeks instead of the current every fortnight model.

A consultation has already been launched by the council consulting residents on plans to move green wheelie bin collections to every three weeks as it looks to reduce waste disposal costs and increase recycling rates.

In a social media post, the council explained they are considering three options: keeping collections as they are, replacing existing green bins with smaller ones while maintaining fortnightly collections, or moving to a three-weekly collection schedule.

Also in a Facebook post, the council said: "Our preferred option of three weekly collections is the best way to address these challenges, and we are asking for feedback on this option. Details of all options considered are available on the consultation website."

They added, "We’re now asking you to share your views on this preferred option and encouraging you to suggest other ways to achieve the Council’s objective in reducing non-recyclable waste and increasing recycling rates. No decision has been made."

Feedback from the consultation will inform a report to the Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee in February 2027.

Residents have until November 25 to submit their opinions through the council's online consultation survey.
