Caldy came close to a remarkable comeback at Richmond on Saturday, fighting back in the second half to take a losing bonus point in a 35-29 defeat.

The home side went ahead after three minutes through Harry Hocking, before Seb Kelly broke through for Caldy to make it 7-5 on the quarter-hour.

Richmond then took control, with Jared Cardew scoring twice, Paddy Case adding another and Callum Grieve going under the posts on 31 minutes.

Ollie Hearn scored off the maul for Caldy on the stroke of half-time.

The Ravers came out with more purpose after the break. Monty Weatherby crashed over five minutes after the restart, and fly half Charlie Attis set up Charlie Hyde for another try.

With Richmond's Alex Burrage in the sin bin, Matt Gallagher spotted a gap to bring Caldy within a converted try.

Despite the extra man, Caldy couldn't break down the home defence in the final minutes, and Richmond held on for their first win of the season.

On social media afterwards, the club thanked the travelling Ravers for their support and said the players would be hurting.

It doesn't get any easier. Caldy are at home to promotion hopefuls Coventry this Saturday, 7 November, with kick-off at 1pm.
