Heads up for anyone planning to travel on Victoria Road; it will be closed for 12 hours on Saturday as people gather for Wirral Pride's New Brighton celebration.
The Victoria Quarter will become a "hub of spectacular entertainment," according to organisers, and will feature market stalls and live performances.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Road closures will be in place from 7 am to 7 pm, affecting Victoria Road from its junction with Rowson Street to Windsor Street, Grosvenor Road from Victoria Road to Hope Street, and Waterloo Road from Wellington Road to Victoria Road.
Pride stalls will open at 10:30 am, with the day featuring performances from Birkenhead artist Benjamin Gillham, drag artist Mandi Fish, DJ Jules, the Liverpool Rainbow Chorus and Richard Sefton. Pam Sandwich returns as host for the free family event.
Founder and director of the Pride event, Jamie Lee Carter, said: "Visibility is the foundation of our progress. When we come together as a community, we are doing so much more than celebrating – we are making a powerful statement of unity and resilience.
"Pride is our dedicated moment to remember the trailblazers who fought for the rights we hold today, to stand in steadfast solidarity with exactly where we are right now, and to collectively shape a future where every single person can live authentically and unapologetically."
The Pride festivities began in 2022. Carter recognised people felt isolated during COVID and wanted to bring the community together. Back then, the event drew larger crowds than ever expected, causing Carter to grow emotional over the turnout.
Organisers rebranded from New Brighton Pride to Wirral Pride in 2025 to "support more people" across the borough. A BSL interpreter will be on the main stage throughout the day, and early browsing is available from 10:30 am for those who prefer quieter conditions before crowds arrive.
