Plans for a new commercial dog breeding kennel have been submitted to Wirral Council.
According to Birkenhead News and the planning application, the site for the kennel will be on land between Bromborough and Raby.
The applicant resides at 2 Hargrave House Cottages on Benty Heath Lane. They already have licences for breeding and selling animals as pets. Concerning the kennels' purpose, they would provide accommodation for dogs kept there as part of licensed breeding.
The kennel would be in the applicant's garden, far away from the neighbouring property. Planning documents state that the neighbour also has dogs in outdoor kennels as well as other animals such as chickens, ducks, and a cockerel. They note that keeping animals outside is "already an established feature within the immediate locality."
As for materials, the kennel will be made with dark coloured timber cladding and a dark grey metal roof. They estimate the roof ridge height to be 2.5 metres. To protect the pups, the roof will be insulated and climate-controlled, with thermal and acoustic insulation to minimise any noise.
As stated in the application, the welfare of the dogs is "paramount", with the kennel designed to keep them safe, comfortable and warm. The dogs on site are described as "highly trained", which the applicant claims will help minimise barking or "other nuisance behaviour."
The planning documents explain: "In addition to licensed breeding activities, the applicant supplies dogs for professional and law enforcement applications. High standards of training, management and welfare are maintained at all times, contributing to a calm and controlled environment."
No decision has been made on the kennel yet. However, the Wirral does have several boarding kennels and breeding businesses as part of the Wirral's large population of dog owners.
