Over 100 Year 7 pupils from The Birkenhead Park School have taken part in an immersive work experience programme with a local housing giant.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, the students took part in work experience at Magenta Living, the largest housing association in Wirral. Magenta has been a staple in the Wirral since 2005, and they focus on providing affordable and good-quality homes.
The programme, organised through a partnership between the school and the housing provider, introduced students to career opportunities in the housing sector. Pupils visited Magenta Living's headquarters where they explored departments including fire safety, marketing, finance, HR and IT.
Students took part in hands-on activities like designing social media posts, learning how to manage issues at an IT help desk, and identifying fire hazards. The students were also educated on HR scenarios to ensure they understand professional challenges in day-to-day work.
Miss Clarke, Assistant Headteacher and Personal Development Lead at The Birkenhead Park School, said: "Our students had a wonderful time at Magenta and came away with so many new skills and interests. Experiences like this help bring learning to life and encourage our students to think positively about the exciting opportunities that could be available to them in the future."
Sally Ross, Jobs Plus Manager at Magenta Living, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome such an inspiring group of young people into our offices and showcase the wide range of careers available in housing – from marketing and content creation to finance and customer services. We hope the experience has built confidence, sparked ambition and helped young people see the impact they can have in their communities."
The partnership forms part of The Birkenhead Park School's wider commitment to early careers education and employer engagement. Student Engagement Coordinator and Careers Lead Miss Brown said: "We want our students to participate in work experience programmes on a regular basis. Our goal is to provide them with the experiences, opportunities and tools they need to explore different career paths, discover what they enjoy and shape their futures with confidence."
Both organisations said they want to build on the partnership and create more opportunities for students on the Wirral.
