An Eastham man has been banned from driving for a year after a roadside test revealed he had twice the legal limit of cannabis in his system.
As reported by Cheshire Live, Stuart Hannah, 38, of Crosthwaite Avenue, pleaded guilty to driving above the legal limit for Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol at Chester Magistrates Court on 22 September.
Hannah was stopped by police in Ellesmere Port on June 22 on Woodfield Road North. His vehicle was flagged to officers.
A drug swipe test found levels of THC at no fewer than 4 – twice the legal limit. He was subsequently arrested.
The court heard that Hannah had initially told officers he last used cannabis six months previously, before admitting it was actually two nights before being stopped.
Duty solicitor Richard Sibeon told the court his client believed he was the victim of a grudge call to the police, which caused his registration to appear on their radar. Mr Sibeon said there was no evidence of bad driving.
He added: "He said he used cannabis to help keep him calm in the evenings and admitted he used cannabis the previous night to being stopped. He is a joiner and has a colleague who can drive so his work will not be affected, but he needs the lowest possible ban."
Magistrates sentenced Hannah to the minimum disqualification of a year, a fine of £276, costs of £85 and a surcharge of £110.
