The Birkenhead Tunnel will be closed for most of the day on Sunday to allow hundreds of cyclists to ride through it without traffic.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Queensway Tunnel will shut in both directions from 5 am to 4:30 pm for the annual Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride. It will partially reopen at 1 pm for traffic to pass through from Liverpool to Birkenhead, but anyone wanting to have a Sunday sesh should wait until after 4 pm.

Alternatively, you can take the Kingsway Tunnel, as it will be open, but given the circumstances, journeys and traffic may take longer to move. There will also be a lane closure on Old Haymarket in Liverpool to support the tunnel closure.

So, what about the bike ride? Well, the ride provides cyclists with five different routes through Liverpool, the Wirral, and Chester. It's not a competitive event, as it caters to all ages and abilities. Distances range from five miles for beginners and go all the way up to 100 miles for confident riders. The LCL, as it's known, has been going for over three decades and is operated by North West Cancer Research. Every penny is donated to charity, and last year, according to LCL, the race made over £80,000 in donations.

Weirdly, one of the draws of the event is the chance to cycle through the Queensway Tunnel traffic-free, because as anyone from the Wirral knows, this is a rarity.
