A Wallasey adventurer, one of only 15 people in the world to have climbed to the top of Mount Everest and swum alone across the English Channel, will give a talk in New Brighton next month.
Philip Walton, who attended St Mary's College in Wallasey Village, will give a talk at Riptide on Victoria Road on 22 August, with 10 per cent of ticket sales going towards the upkeep of New Brighton's murals, according to the Wirral Globe. Riptide opened last year, rebranded from the old Oakland Art Gallery.
The event will combine storytelling and live music by musician Marc Kenny, with classical music from Bruce Springsteen, Echo & the Bunnymen, John Prine, Cat Stevens and local band The Folk Doctors.
Speaking about the event, Philip said the event would explore themes of resilience, persistence, gratitude, and legacy. Naturally, it will be inspired by his adventure experiences, including the Everest Climb and Channel swim, as well as other mountain climbing and cycling adventures.
"Ultimately, it is as much about mountains and swimming as it is about encouraging people to reflect on their own challenges, ambitions, relationships and the ordinary moments that make up a meaningful life," The adventurer said.
The talk will also pay tribute to famous Wirral mountaineers George Mallory and Andrew 'Sandy' Irvine, acknowledging the legacy of their 1924 Mount Everest expedition a century on.
