A Rock Ferry man has been jailed for more than five years after stabbing his father at a house in Woodchurch, according to Merseyside Police.
Andrew Roberts, 37, of Woodward Road, Rockferry, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, after pleading guilty to Section 18 wounding with intent for the attack on his 56-year-old father in December last year.
Officers were called to an address on Big Meadow Road in Woodchurch on the afternoon of 16 December following reports that a man had suffered an injury to his chest. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the injuries were not life-threatening.
Roberts was apprehended in the Rake Lane area and was initially charged with attempted murder. He pleaded guilty to Section 18 assault, which was refused by the Crown Prosecution Service, and the case proceeded to trial last month. The trial resulted in a hung jury.
Roberts was sentenced to five and a half years for Section 18 wounding with intent.
Detective Sergeant Ciara Cross said in a statement: "This is an awful case where Roberts attacked his own father with a knife, which caused the victim to fear for his life from his own son. The emotional impact this has had on the victim has been extremely distressing for him."
She added: "The use of knives can have devastating consequences, including domestic settings such as this. We are committed to removing anyone who stores, carries, and uses weapons, through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants, and education work alongside partners."
