A former RHS Flower Show garden donated to Wirral University Teaching Hospital has been expanded to provide a calm space for staff and visitors.
The Constructing Minds Garden was originally displayed at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park in 2023 before being rebuilt at Clatterbridge Hospital, close to Bebington. The garden has now been extended to include a butterfly meadow and woodland walk with seating areas, at no cost to the Trust, according to Birkenhead News.
The gorgeous garden is themed around mental health and intends to support wellbeing by reducing stress and anxiety. Heartwarmingly, volunteers at Constructing Minds with Nature, a landscape design studio that specialises in community and charity gardens, used their time to generously develop the space.
An unveiling was made on 26 June to show off the new butterfly meadow and woodland walk.
Jon Jarvis, founder of Constructing Minds with Nature, said in a statement: "We formed a not-for-profit team called Constructing Minds with Nature with a vision to provide green spaces to enhance human wellbeing and the environment. After donating our award-winning RHS show garden to Clatterbridge, we could see an opportunity to develop the surrounding spaces so staff and patients could connect to nature to reduce stress and anxiety."
He added: "This reflects the growing recognition that human health and the natural environment are intertwined."
Carolyn Hardern, also a founder of Constructing Minds with Nature, said: "With this, our largest project to date, it would not be possible without the amazing generosity from sponsors. Jon, the sponsors and I are pleased to be able to provide an accessible, tranquil space for staff, patients and visitors to Clatterbridge Hospital to enjoy."
The chief executive at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, Janelle Holmes, thanked the company for "all their hard work" in creating the space, and the volunteers who donated their time. She added the garden would be an outdoor wellbeing space benefiting everyone.
The opening was even attended by a very important guest, the Mayor of Wirral, and other representatives from the hospital Trust.
