Film crews believed to be linked to The Batman Part II have returned to Merseyside, with a two-day setup at the old entrance to the Birkenhead tunnel on Rendel Street, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The site was covered by large fencing earlier this week as teams, believed to be part of the film crew, were seen on location. But most importantly, a white car with blue trim with the markings GCP was spotted, thought to mean Gotham City Police.
The Liverpool Film Office and Warner Bros have not confirmed or denied whether it was Batman filming. However, trade publications have sneakily listed Liverpool as a filming location for the DC sequel. So, it's looking like Batman may be in Merseyside.
It's not even the first time film groups have been seen in Liverpool for the production. Vehicles marked Gotham City police and US yellow taxis were previously spotted outside St George's Hall, and the Birkenhead Tunnel was in use for night shoots. Apparently, Robert Pattinson's stunt double was spotted as well on top of a moving car!
It's been six years since R-Pats's Batman was shot during COVID, which also had some of the same filming locations in Liverpool. One day, people even saw someone dressed in black on top of the Liver Building. That was for The Batman! The film did extremely well, grossing around £578 million worldwide.
The sequel is supposed to release in October 2027.
The recent visit is understood to have been a technical reconnaissance by the studio rather than a full official shoot. Director Matt Reeves and cast members have confirmed filming is underway, so it's likely that filming of The Batman sequel was in the Wirral and Liverpool.
Liverpool has become the most filmed area in the UK outside of London. Since 2019, more than 1,600 productions have set up in the city, generating £150m for the local economy.
