A man and his dog have died following a house fire in Wallasey.
Emergency services were called to a property on Beaufort Drive around 8:38 pm last night, following a fire breaking out on the property's ground floor. Three fire engines attended the scene.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, firefighters arrived quickly to find the ground floor on fire, with smoke coming from the house's first floor.
Six firefighters who were wearing breathing masks entered the property to deal with the fire and search for anyone inside the house.
Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the scene.
A man and his dog were rescued from the property, and first aid was given to the man, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene before he was due to head to hospital. Attempts were made to also resuscitate the dog, but it also died at the scene.
The fire was extinguished at 9:06pm.
Crews continued to monitor temperatures and damp down the affected area to make the scene safe. MFRS personnel left the incident at 12:51am this morning.
The cause of the fire is now being investigated. In a statement, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager Ged Knock said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the occupier at this difficult time.
“A joint Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.”
Mr Knock added that firefighters had worked in extremely difficult circumstances to carry out rescues, with all three emergency services doing everything they could to preserve life.
He said the fire service was conscious of the incident's impact on the local community and would carry out a reassurance programme in the area.
Police remained outside the affected property on Tuesday morning as investigations continued.
No road closures are currently in place on the road.
