Neighbours reported seeing blood on the pavement as a man was stabbed inside a house on Poulton Road in Wallasey last night after two men allegedly forced their way into the property.
According to the Liverpool Echo, police were called to the street at around 10:50 pm last night after reports of the attack. The victim suffered two stab wounds to his arm and an injury to his head. He was taken to the hospital; he's in a serious but stable condition.
The two offenders fled in the direction of Gorsey Lane in a dark-coloured saloon-type vehicle.
Poulton Road was closed between Greencroft Road and Eastcroft Road following the incident, with a smaller cordon remaining outside the house this morning.
Dried blood could be spotted on the pavement outside the property, reportedly close to the front door. Scientific support officers were spotted at the scene around 8 am this morning.
One woman who lives on Poulton Road told the Echo her CCTV camera had picked up two young males coming onto the street from Greencroft Road, crossing over in the direction of the house. This was followed by a banging sound as the pair apparently tried to force entry to the property.
Another woman, who was woken by the commotion, told the publication: "All I heard was shouting and kicking the door. I think they knocked the front door down. I came out, and the neighbours were out, and they said it was a stabbing. A stabbing has not happened round here before – I've been here over 20 years."
She added: "I went back in just after 12 am and the police were still there. They blocked the road off, and I think the two fellows ran down the road."
Several people told the publication they were unsurprised by the violence. Reportedly, they said the area is "renowned" for balaclava-clad young men riding bikes.
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "Extensive enquiries are being carried out to catch the perpetrators, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Poulton Road and had seen or heard anything to come forward and speak to us. I also urge people in the area to check your CCTV and dashcam footage to see if it has captured any footage, no matter how small, as any information may help with the investigation."
